Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart

As customers, we do not want to waste time, especially our money shopping for groceries. Adequate quality and price are our top choices.

Aldi may not be viral in the U.S. compared to their business competitor, but if we prioritize cheap prices, Aldi may be the star.

So, is Walmart cheaper than Aldi or not? This article will answer the following questions by considering and comparing two stores.

Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?

Aldi is not usually less expensive than Walmart. When it comes to producing seafood, the scenario is quite the opposite.

This retailer, which outnumbers Aldi by a two inputs margin, has reduced the pricing of many of its Great Value goods. So, Aldi may be more costly, but the gap is often just a few cents.

Technique for Cost Comparison

Aldi and Walmart’s discount grocery chains may appear to have similar strategies, but there are some fundamental differences between the companies.

For example, Aldi’s shopping centers tend to be smaller than W’s, and they do not feature as many of their ‘household’ brands.

However, Aldi’s products are, on average, cheaper than its component because the German chain imports many of its goods from Europe to avoid paying import fees in the states.

So, to find out which store offers the better deal, we completed our study, comparing and contrasting what we thought were the most popular grocery store items by private label, ensuring we found the alternatives that matched up the most closely. We must all remember that prices can vary from time to place. The price comparison chart below is for reference only. Thus the answer to “Is Walmart or Aldi cheaper?” may not be 100% certain.

Aldi Vs Walmart – Price Comparison

Vegetables

We have listed out some of the most frequently-bought items in two stores to compare the price:

ItemAldi Walmart
Tri-Color Peppers, 32.993.37
Broccoli Crowns1.45/lb.1.33/lb.
Red Grapes1.55/lb.1.56/lb
Pineapple1.49 each1.68
Limes, 1 lb.1.992.15

It’s no surprise that Aldi outperforms Walmart on product items. Aldi’s products are less expensive than Walmart’s except for broccoli crowns.

While customers are concerned about Aldi’s produce, they receive resupply every day (its stock rotates – oldest on top).

Meat And Seafood

ItemPricePrice
Beef Stew Meat5.49/lb.6.98
Pork Loin, 1 lb.2.293.38
Chicken breasts, 1 lb.1.892.08
Fresh packaged salmon, 1 lb.7.797.79
Imitation crab meat, 8 oz.2.191.99

Comparing the two biggest supermarket chains in America, we found that Aldi has cheaper meat prices.

The exception is seafood, which is understandable due to seasonal availability.

Bread And Bakery

ItemAldi PriceWalmart Price
Hot Dog Buns.85.88
Hamburger Buns.85.88
Tortillas (burrito size)1.292.17
Bagel Skinnys2.593.48*

Gluten Free Bread6.055.54
Plain English Muffins1.151.18
Hawaiian Sweet Rolls1.492.50
Blueberry Bagels1.491.88
Chocolate Mini Donuts2.392.36
Organic Seeded Bread, 20 oz.3.494.00
Ciabatta Rolls2.692.77

The difference in the price of some food items at the Aldi versus the Walmart chain of grocery stores says a lot about the differences in the two companies’ product offerings.

Comparing the price of hot dog buns and Bagel Skinnys at both of these chains of grocery stores illustrates this point.

While the Bagel Skinnys are nearly twice as expensive in the Aldi store, the price of the hot dog buns is only 0.35 more expensive.

This small price difference illustrates one of the main differences between these two companies.

While Walmart sells low-priced products, Aldi also offers high-quality products at an attractive price.

Frozen Foods

It is reluctant to compare Walmart and Aldi because Aldi does not have the same resources at its disposal.

ItemAldi PriceWalmart Price
Corn, 12 oz..471.00
Brussels Sprouts, 12 oz.1.151.27
Green Beans, 16 oz.1.751.79

Vanilla Ice Cream, 48 oz.1.853.98
Flavored Ice Cream, 16 oz.2.094.38 (Ben and Jerry’s)
Basic Veggie Burger, 10 oz.2.992.98
Medium Cooked Shrimp, 12 oz.4.595.60
Chicken Nuggets, 29 oz.3.554.28 (32 oz.)

Even though Walmart can bring to the table prices that are simply unbeatable, Aldi offers a comparable favor in terms of the ice cream flavors they have available for purchase.

Walmart has its name attached to many popular flavor brands and sells them quickly due to their popularity, but some people still love what Aldi has to offer.

Pasta And Grains

ItemAldi PriceWalmart Price
Elbow Macaroni, 32 oz.1.89.1.64

Jasmine Rice, 5 lbs.5.45 (.069/oz).077/oz.
Instant White Rice, 28 oz.2.652.44
Instant Mashed Potatoes, 4 oz..59.74

Although Walmart’s broad line of pasta and grains is not as economically competitive as Aldi Rice, you can make it your best deal by buying in bulk.

Buying only two packets of five-pound mass-produced rice may be cheaper than the bag but when making enough for a large family or cooking party, it will become more expensive than the latter after a while.

Snacks

Fruit Snacks, 28 ct..15/oz..136/oz.
White Cheddar Popcorn, 8.5 oz.1.491.74 (9 oz.)

According to a recent reader poll, Walmart often beats out local chain grocery store Aldi in the dry snacks aisle.

The benefit of Walmart is their tax-free status, clipping over 10% off the price of their snacks.

For instance, a Lay’s potato chips bag in Walmart costs $1.23 per 8 oz, while the same bag in Aldi costs $1.35 at the same amount.

Pantry Items

ItemAldi PriceWalmart Price

Canola Oil, 48 oz.2.152.28
Raw Honey, 24 oz.6.49 (.27/oz).24/oz
Pure Maple Syrup, 12.5 oz.5.696.98

Walmart appears to be slightly more affordable than Aldi regarding pantry items.

It should not exactly come as a surprise given Aldi’s 10,000 square foot discount stores that became prominent in the U.S. after World War II.

The reason is America’s need for low-cost groceries in the aftermath of the war and eventual reconstruction back into our everyday operation, especially since Aldi primarily offers low-priced staples.

Baking Supplies

Baking Soda, 16 oz..50.82
Baking Powder, 8.1 oz..991.12
Chocolate Chips, Semi-Sweet, 12 oz.1.691.74

If you love baking, you’re surely aware that Aldi caters to those who want to do some light cooking but don’t have much time.

The most astounding item is the 50 cent package of baking soda, which is a whole 32 cents cheaper than Walmart’s already low price.

Dairy And Eggs

It’s possible to physically feel your heart sink when you peer into your refrigerator and see a carton of eggs or a pint of milk that has expired.

When that happens, you may be wise to find a grocery store with lower prices. Take Aldi, for instance.

It’s one of the best grocery stores to shop at if you’re on a budget. For example, Aldi’s butter costs less than Walmart’s butter.

Aldi also has lower dairy prices than Walmart Prices are accurate as of May 2015. Butter: $2.99 (Aldi) vs. $2.98 (Walmart) Skim milk: $2.97 (Aldi) vs. $3.78 (Walmart) Eggs: $1.31 (Aldi) vs. $1.53 (Walmart).

Conclusion

Walmart might be a more popular choice, but that does not mean that Aldi is not worth checking out.

A lesser-known fact about Aldi is that the grocery store tends to have better deals if you don’t plan on buying seafood! And it would pay off in the long run by switching to Aldi.Hope you can find this article informative and find the answer to “Is Aldi’s cheaper than Walmart?
